Ahead of the first trailer set to be released this week, Vanity Fair has received plenty of exclusive new details about the upcoming Universal Pictures movie Jurassic World Rebirth. Directed by Gareth Edwards (The Creator, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story), the film is set to be a clean slate for the franchise, introducing a whole new cast of characters while still taking place after the events of the last trilogy. With a new director at the helm and a new creative vision, this next film has the potential to be the most exciting (and scariest) entry yet.
The latest first-look images, which can be viewed below, showcase the new characters at the film’s center, along with plenty of familiar dinosaurs, albeit with altered designs. Rebirth centers around a recovery team consisting of Zora (Scarlett Johansson), Duncan (Mahershala Ali), and Henry (Jonathan Bailey). They venture to an abandoned Jurassic Park research lab on a remote island, only to discover that the dinosaurs created there have thrived in their isolation.
Featuring dinosaurs like T-Rex, Spinosaurus, and Mosasarurus, the first new images for Jurassic World Rebirth include new spins on classic dinosaurs featured prominently in different Jurassic movies. The T-Rex featured in the first-look image features a striped design, giving the dinosaur a whole new feel. Moreover, The Spinosaurus hasn’t been seen since Jurassic Park III, with the dinosaur serving as the primary antagonist in that film. Now, three Spino’s are featured in one of the images, circling a boat in the water that helps to accentuate the terror and intensity that fans can expect in the new film, due later this year.
‘Jurassic World Rebirth’ Wants To Bring a New Sense of Danger
On top of the new characters and setting, Jurassic World Rebirth is set to feature more frightening aspects than other installments in the series have explored. Gareth Edwards has spoken in the past about how he wants to bring back the tension and suspense introduced in the first film, and the executive producers behind the project agree. Frank Marshall, producer of the Jurassic films, told Vanity Fair that for this next entry in the series, they are exploring uncharted territory both literally and thematically, saying:
“I’ve always said that visual effects are great, CGI is a great tool, but it makes you lazy because you know you can do anything. It’s got to be dangerous. You’re in a new place, you don’t know what’s around the corner. You’ve got a different jungle, you’ve got more water, you’ve got higher cliffs, There’s a little bit of everything that’s scary.”

Most ‘Jurassic Park’ Fans Missed the Dorkiest Joke in the Series
Sorry fans, T. rex was in all likelihood a lumbering animal with an anatomy more befitting an overgrown, land-borne vulture.
Jurassic World Rebirth has the potential to be a return to form for the series, which hasn’t had as much critical success as it has commercially. The Jurassic World trilogy didn’t receive much critical acclaim outside the first entry in the series released in 2015. Edwards, who has proven himself well suited to special effects-heavy films and creature features, is sure to bring a new intense tone to the Jurassic Park films and make the dinosaurs more frightening than they have ever been with a mix of practical and computer-generated effects.
