Blake Lively's 'A Simple Favor' Sequel Now Titled 'Another Simple Favor'

The long-awaited sequel to 2018’s hit A Simple Favor has officially confirmed its new title, as well as when it will have its world premiere and its streaming debut on Prime Video. The streamer has confirmed the film is called Another Simple Favor and will see Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick reprise their roles as Emily Nelson and Stephanie Smothers, respectively. The plot revolves around Emily’s wedding in Capri, Italy, to a wealthy Italian businessman being interrupted by a murder. Paul Feig returns to direct, as does the first film screenwriter, Jessica Sharzer, who is also joined by Shutter Island screenwriter Laeta Kalogridris.

Prime Video announced Another Simple Favor will be the premiere film at the South by Southwest Film Festival (SXSW) on Mar. 7, 2025. “I couldn’t be more thrilled to be back at my favorite festival in the world where we successfully launched Bridesmaids and Spy, and I cannot begin to say how honored I am to have our film opening it all.” said director Paul Feig. The filmmaker doesn’t make sequels or any kind of follow-ups for his projects, but he found Another Simple Favor “too much fun” to pass up.

“I’ve avoided making sequels to any of my films but these characters were just too much fun not to revisit. So, to be able to have Anna, Blake, Henry [Golding], Andrew [Rannells], Michele [Morrone], Elizabeth [Perkins], Alex [Newell] and myself watch our film with the great SXSW audience is a bucket list event that I’ll be able to check off March 7th and move playing drums for Dwight Yoakum’s band up to the top slot.”

Claudette Godfrey, SXSW’s vice president of film and television, revealed what makes Another Simple Favor the ideal film to open the film festival, saying:

“When we saw this film last fall, we instantly knew it had to open SXSW – it gave us that electric feeling we live for as programmers. Paul Feig and SXSW share an unmatched love for bold, fearless comedy. From that unforgettable late night screening of ‘Bridesmaids’ to ‘Spy’s raucous world premiere, his films capture exactly what makes our festival special — wildly entertaining projects that push boundaries. We’re beyond excited to reunite with Paul and kick off the festival with a film that had our entire team laughing, cheering and immediately wanting to watch it again!”

In addition, Feig announced on X that Another Simple Favor will debut on Prime Video on May 1, 2025. The post (see below) also features the first poster for the sequel. This puts Another Simple Favor as the unofficial start of the summer movie season, coming out just one day before Marvel Studios’ Thunderbolts*. This matches how Prime Video released the Anne Hathaway-led romantic drama The Idea of You, which debuted on Mar. 16, 2024, as the closing night film at South by Southwest before debuting on Prime Video on May 2, 2024.

One big question on many people’s minds is if star Blake Lively will attend the premiere of Another Simple Favor at South by Southwest. It would mark Lively’s first public appearance since her legal battle with It Ends with Us director Justin Baldoni. The lawsuit has become a very public affair, with Baldoni seemingly doing everything within his power to try and discredit Lively’s sexual misconduct allegations by leaking behind-the-scenes footage and a voicemail he left her.

In early January 2025, just as the lawsuit between Lively and Baldoni started to heat up, claims online started to circulate that Prime Video was going to shelve Another Simple Favor due to a feud between Lively and her co-star Anna Kendrick. Paul Feig quickly shot this rumor down, calling it “total BS,” and later revealed that the streamer had a specific release pattern that worked out for the movie. Now the plan is clear, and Another Simple Favor will arrive nearly seven years after the first film became a surprise box office hit. While it is disappointing that Another Simple Favor won’t get the chance to play in theaters, many eyes will likely be tuning into Prime Video for the first week of May.
